Kathie Donovan is broadcasting royalty in Canada’s capital. Her career has spanned almost four decades. Her first radio gig was at the tender age of eight – a children’s program at CFBC in New Brunswick. It was love at first mic. Her passion was ignited. Kathie found her niche and radio found a rich, dynamic communicator. In 1975, she was one of the original disc-jockeys at the first campus FM radio station in Canada at Carleton University. She was quickly scooped up as one of the founding voices of Ottawa’s first FM rock station, CHEZ 106.
It was a magical run for a decade. Listeners loved her. TV wanted her. She was recruited to join the number one news team at CJOH-TV in 1988. There Kathie showcased local entertainment…and introduced new talents – a young Ryan Gosling, teenager Alanis Morissette and singing sensation, Celine Dion.
It wasn’t celebrity that won Kathie’s heart, but the shining stars of Regional Contact. For fourteen years Kathie co-hosted and co-produced the award-winning, top-rated program that has been dubbed “heart and soul television”. Her gift for connecting with people and sharing their stories has made Kathie an endearing part of the tapestry of Eastern Ontario and West Quebec.
This broadcasting jewel has added her casual warmth and sparkle to a spectrum of live community events as host, speaker and MC for telethons, galas, conferences, corporate functions, golf tournaments and a myriad of fundraisers.
Donovan’s unmistakably rich and distinctive narration-style makes her the “voice of choice” for a variety of prestigious projects both on and off camera.
Kathie has a big career. She is a media giant, a powerful force and the author of Inspiration in Action: A Woman’s Guide to Happiness. That’s why people are surprised to learn she is under five feet tall – proof that great things do come in small packages.
